Indoor Air Quality Tips for the Summer

Staying cool is often the top priority for homeowners during the summer, but it’s not the only concern. There are a number of changes to air quality that take place during the summer, which can have a negative effect on your health. Let’s take a look at a few of the ways that you can improve your indoor air quality this summer.

Install an Air Filter

When the temperature starts to rise outside, most homeowners shut all of their doors and windows before turning on their air conditioning systems. This is a smart thing to do, as it makes the air conditioner much more energy efficient. However, cutting off all fresh air flow into your home for a long period of time tends to make your indoor air feel stale after a while. Humidity levels tend to drop, and airborne contaminants are recycled throughout the house. These can cause a wide range of health problems, from allergy attacks to the flu. In order to combat this issue, it’s a good idea to install an air filter or some other kind of air purifier in your home.

Use a Humidifier

As mentioned above, continual use of an air conditioning system in the home will lower the humidity level of the air. Use it too long, and your skin will start to dry out to the point of cracking. Not only is this uncomfortable, but it also makes it easier for you to be infected by all sorts of things like viruses and bacteria. Consider installing a humidifier to combat the drop in humidity you may experience this summer.
