Is Geothermal Heating and Cooling Right for You?

geothermal

If you’ve been searching endlessly online for ‘geothermal installation near me‘ then you can stop looking. You found us! We live and work in your community, and our experts specialize in geothermal installation. Maybe you’ve heard geothermal as a buzzword that has piqued your interest, but you’re not exactly sure what it is.

We can help! Geo is the prefix of the word, and it means “of the earth” while thermal means “related to heat.” So combined, geothermal means related to the heat of the earth. And that’s exactly how a geothermal heating and cooling system works. It uses the heat of the earth to control the temperature inside your home. If you want to learn more, just keep reading.

How Does Geothermal Cooling Work?

Fall is here, and soon you’ll be turning on your heat. But at least half of the year you run your air conditioner to cool your home, so many homeowners want to know how geothermal cooling works. Especially when you consider the name – heat of the earth. Your geothermal heating and cooling system is housed ten feet or more underground.

Antifreeze circulates with water through the coils buried in the ground. In the winter, your geothermal system pulls heat from underground to warm your home up. But in the summer the system does the opposite. It takes heat away from your home and deposits it underground to cool your home.

Benefits of Geothermal Heating and Cooling

Many air conditioners heat and cool your home using outside air. But when it’s very cold outside there’s less heat to bring into your home, and vis versa during the hottest days of summer. But a geothermal system doesn’t have that problem because it’s using a source that is buried deep underground.

Temperatures in the air may change, but the temperatures underground remain relatively stable year-round. This makes geothermal installation a smart choice because the system is three to six times more efficient than other types of HVAC systems. Plus, it’s better for the environment because it has fewer emissions.

It is important to remember that not all homes are eligible for a geothermal unit installation. The coils that go in the ground take up a significant amount of space, so you have to have room on your property to accommodate the coils. Our team can conduct a free assessment of your property to let you know if you’re eligible.

And our Trane EnviroWise™ System is superior to other brands, geothermal and traditional units alike. A Trane system is quieter and more energy efficient than other systems. Plus, you’ve got three options:

  • Split system –  Works similarly to a traditional HVAC system with an air handler or furnace that is inside your home.
  • All-in-one system – Relies solely on the coils underground.
  • Water heating and cooling system – Transfers heat using loops of fluid that are built into the unit.
