Your air conditioning system uses a couple different fans in order to remove heat from your home and exhaust it outside. It is truly a marvel of engineering, but like any other piece of equipment, it can eventually break down and require repair. One common issue that we get called to repair is a broken air conditioning fan. At Carney Plumbing, Heating & Cooling, we offer fast and good quality Radnor, PA air conditioning repair services and we wanted to share some of the signs that could indicate that your AC is having a fan problem.
If you have a central air conditioning system, then you likely have two different fans: one in the indoor unit and one in the outdoor condensing unit. Whenever you run your AC these fans need to operate constantly. Because of all that use, there are a couple common problems that can arise.
- New noises – Your fan uses a motor, a belt and a fan blade in order to move air. One common way that you can tell if your fans aren’t working well is if they start to make new noises. If you hear squealing coming from your fans it usually means that the fan belt is old and needs to be replaced. Rattling or grinding noises can indicate that the fan motor bearing need to be replaced or lubricated.
- Fans won’t turn on – Another common issue is when your fans just won’t turn on. This could be caused by a couple different things. First, it could be that the fan motor is broken or that the system isn’t plugged in any more. But it could also be the capacitor for the motor. Capacitors are kind of like boosters for your air conditioning system’s motors. They store electric charge and then release it when the motors need to start up. If your fans aren’t starting it could be that their capacitors need to be replaced.
